As we surf the web, whether we are aware of it or not, we leave digital footprints. The posts we share, tweets we send, updates we add to our Facebook profiles, etc., all contribute to our digital reputation. Does digital reputation matter? When it comes to job opportunities, the answer is yes.
According to a recent IBM Smarter Workforce Institute study, three quarters of HR and hiring managers (77 percent) use social media for recruiting.
Of those HR and hiring managers who use social media in recruitment, most (80 percent) say job candidates’ digital reputations affect their hiring decisions. In fact, almost half (42 percent) said it influences their hiring decisions to a great or very great extent. In short, your digital reputation could impact the likelihood of being offered a job.
